Sewing Machines That Use the Davis Long Needle
The Davis Long needle is a flat shank, long-length needle (about 1.9–2.0 inches) originally designed for Davis Vertical Feed machines and other antique vertical feed or underfeed sewing machines. It is not a universal needle system like the modern Groz-Beckert 130/705, but rather a specific vintage needle type
Machines that use the Davis Long needle
Based on collector and needle supplier references, the Davis Long needle is used on:
- Davis Vertical Feed (VF) models — including Low Arm, High Arm, VF1, VF2, and New Vertical Feed series
- Minnesota underfeed machines — such as Minnesota A, B, C, D, F, S, Honeymoon, and Unique models
- Other antique vertical feed/underfeed machines — many of these share the same needle length and shank style, so the Davis Long needle can often be substituted for similar vintage models
Needle characteristics
- Length: ~1.9–2.0 inches (slightly under 2")
- Shank: Flat shank, not round.
- Thread groove: Full-length thread groove on the side.
- Size range: Available in sizes 8–16, with size 10–12 being common for general sewing
